Google is big – no one doubts it. But the size is not always crucial in questions of advertising and advertisers’ love.
Still, over 150 k advertisers is a serious proof that Google is a hit with advertisers, and this number is growing.
Let’s see what makes it a hit, because this knowledge helps us to cater our sites better for the advertisers.
First of all we can talk about scalability. Those who tried the thing and see that it works, will do the best to expand their success. With thousands of websites which have the capacity to display their ads this becomes absolutely realistic and the promo coverage spreads like a virus.
One more important thing – advertisers tend more to get published on the sites (not in Google search results) because not all are using Google as search engines. Due to this when you get your ads published on the site you know for sure that – no matter from what search engines people come to this site – you will have your ad seen by real visitors.
Not the least factor is trust. Advertisers feel that money invested into advertising with Google is safe.
The new feature is that advertisers can choose the sites where exactly their ads should be published. This gives a new understanding of precision and laser targetedness in the online advertising. And this is a hint to be not that critical about big brands (unless this is your aim), because they might feel bad about having your site as their publishing grounds.
So what is the future of the famous Google AdSense program?
We do not have time machine to give you 100% guaranteed facts, but some of the trends are obvious…
AdSense targeting algorithms will become better and more powerful. Due to this AdSense will choose advertisers that appear in more appropriate results on more appropriate pages.
More protection for AdWords advertisers from click fraud. This is a HUGE problem today, and though Google is doing the best, there is even more to be done. By the way, part of the problem would be to solve the issue of Google AdSense sabotage which is deliberate overclicking on the AdSenes ads of the competitors so that their accounts get closed.
Google has already introduced site-targeted AdSense CPM, "smart pricing" and domain blocking and there will probably be improvements that have already been added by other similar sites.
We can also wait for the integration of AdSense into other forms of media.
Do not forget that Google has access to over 150,000 advertisers round the globe and due to this penetrate offline markets in different countries. For example, they can appoint offline distributors to promote – everything
RSS and AdSense; this is already happening. The possibility to send targeted ads directly to RSS is a great idea that is being tested right now. When it is 100% ready – this will be a hit.
And, of course, cost per action models, that are promoted by Google long ago and sooner or later will come on the stage.
This blog is mostly devoted to sharing tips about how to maximize the success from using Google AdSense program. That is why at first sight the post about disadvantages of Google AdSenses will look strange here.
But thinking in long terms about the reputation of this blog we want to give light to the opposing parts of this issue.
That is why, let’s talk about the cons of using AdSense ads on your sites and blogs.
First of all, many publishers do not get the revenues they anticipated. With the realistic click through rate of 1.5%- 5% you should have at least several hundreds of visitors per day to get over $1.00 in daily profits from AdSense ads.
Another disadvantage in that most of the ads look tacky. Surely the looks of the ads (text ads) are in the hands of publisher. But many publishers follow the strange trend of making AdSense ads look ugly. And color improvement needs some efforts.
One more problem is the amount of click fraud. Loosing part of the money due to click fraud in not the biggest problem. The bigger problem is that due to click fraud done by 3rd parties on your pages YOUR ADSENSE ACCOUNT can get closed. Check the posts of this blog to see how to find Google click fraud.
Not the biggest problem – but still a pain in the back – ads on the site do not change often. This means that clickers have no new sites to click on.
But in any case, we think that most of the disadvantages can be handled – using the tips published on this blog. And the problems which cannot be recovered are fading away when we start to talk about the advantages of AdSense for the publishers.
AdSense for search is one of the great units which is – quite often – overlooked by the publishers. And the extra profit is lost due to this mistake.
This tool is very functional and helpful to website visitors. People are giving a way to find more info. If this info is on your web site, Google will show it in the results. If they find more results in AdWords units and click – you get paid.
So, this is a good way to generate AdSense revenues without the concern of diminishing the "brand" of a web site.
Another advantage is that AdSense for search occupies a small portion of the place on site screen. Due to this publishers do not sacrifice space where AdSense would previously appear.
One more advantage – as a publisher you are playing with bigger circle of advertisers. Not all AdWords advertisers play on the AdSense market. With Google for search you are getting the boys and girls who pay money within the framework of AdWords. The more advertisers – the better!
And a psychological trick – your site or blog gets extra scores in the eyes of some visitors because of the Google logo which is displayed inside the search unit. And those who choose the unit without logo may look to have invented their own search – cool
As you can see, AdSense for search is a great tool to make extra money with AdSense program and invest into the better image of your site.
Google Adsense program is a fast and simple way for publishers to monetize their web site traffic.
Surely the amount of profits depends on how much the advertisers are willing to pay in this niche. But even within the same niche you can do special steps to make more money with Google AdSense program.
Better focus on one topic per page.
By doing this you help Google to define the topic of this page and choose the ads of better relevancy. The better relevancy, the more clicks you are likely to get.
Use white space around your ad.
Perhaps, this is more of an issue of the psychology of the eye work, but by doing that you make your ad stand out from the rest of your page and visitors spot the ads better.
Play with the colors.
No big science, but you can try 2 approaches: either make ads look like the rest of the site or make them stand out of the site visual color scheme. You will see what works better with your visitors.
Test ad placement.
Today Google AdSense has a truly great feature of channeling each ad separately. Channeling provides separate reporting on each unit, which gives you a tremendous chance to see what ad on what page and in what part of the page is giving you more money.
That is why – test, test and test. Vertical and horizontal, large and small, fading colors and colors that stand out of the line.
Very soon you will come up to the ads placement that is ideal in terms of making more money with Google AdSense program.
We have already published a post on this blog where explained part of the reasons for Google account to get terminated and how you can fight it.
However the list of difficulties is not over and we continue sharing tips about what cause the account to get closed and practical recommendations about how to avoid it.
Hidden texts.
Don’t use them, this is not wise and Google is very angry when you hide the texts from visitors, trying to cheat the bots with that. We are not going to prove here that this strategy is giving no SEO value these days – just take it by default that it is not working and can get the account closed.
Page cloaking.
Page cloaking works like this: special program serves the robots of search engines with special optimized page and visitors see absolutely another page. This strategy is also a big no-no with Google. Maybe they will not catch you from the very beginning and you can survive for a week or month or year. But then your account will be closed and, maybe, the site gets kicked off from the Google index.
Link farms.
This is a disputable issue because some Internet marketers gave examples of link farms that are "blessed" by Google and purchase of backlinks from that farms does no harm. However, you do not know for sure if this or that link farm is ok for Google. It is even more fair to say that most of the link farms are hated by Google.
That is why getting backlinks from the link farms is a sure way to get problems with Google, get a site or blog de-indexed and even AdSense account terminated.
Doorways.
Doorways are close to cloaking pages, but with one difference. Doorway is a keyword optimized page that later on sends a visitor to a "normal" page. There have been times when doorways worked and worked pretty nice, and that is why Google started to fight them.
That is why no to doorways. Doorway as a notion has very bad reputation in Google’s eyes.
Avoid these strategies and your chances to get site de-listed from index and AdSense account closed will get down to minimum.
Anyone who is taking part in Google AdSense program is asking this question – how much lovely bucks will it give to me?
Surely don’t expect that Google will tell you how much money was paid by AdWords advertisers for each click that was made on your site. Why? Because Google decided that this way it will be better. We can love it, we can hate it – but this is how Google decided to do that
Those who do not like – can simply not put AdSense codes on their pages and hit the big Google into the very heart
No really, if about 30% of the sites in the net take AdSense ads away, this will be a serious jab to Google, but as they keep using the lovely ads – this is the best proof that everybody is happy.
When you are going to estimate your future profits with Google AdSense program you need to take 2 factors into account:
- your traffic volume
- your traffic source
Volume is the amount of people who come to your site or blog, come on a regular basis.
Source is from where these people come. It is proven by real case experience that people who come from search engines are very good clickers on the AdSense ads.
Then it all comes down to how you position the ads on your pages and what click through rate (CTR) you will have. 5% CTR is considered to be very good. Over 10% CTR – something you can boast about.
And the last thing to consider – your niche. Surely advertiser in investments, loans, mortgages, health insurances, real estate are paying more per click than cheaper niches. But you can compensate it with getting plugged into less competitive niche.
Now, let’s do the calculations.
You have 1,000 unique visitors per day to your blog about mortgage (tough niche, by the way). Out of them you know by your traffic stats that 500 come from search engines. You also know that for the traffic which comes from search engines you have 5% CTR. And you know that averagely and advertiser in this niche is paying $1.00
Then it means your average profits for the part of traffic which comes from search engines should be:
500 people X $1.00 X 0.05 = $25.00 (daily)
Surely these are averages, life is more flexible and unexpected. But now you can think in terms of some figures.
The key to success with Adsense ads is to put the ads into the nicely clickable spots and deliver as much targeted traffic to these pages as possible.
How to find a balance between giving away traffic (people who click ads go away from your site or blog) and being happy about it?
First of all you should take into account this simple tip.
Adsense links (link units) are not getting that much clicks. That is why if you place these link units on the pages were you’d like visitors to do other things (not click the link units) – you will increase the conversions of downloading some free stuff, or signing up for the course, or clicking the affiliate link buried in the text. So, the link units are good as ’scare off’ to make visitors do the stuff that you want.
2nd tier in AdSense program. Well, Google is not offering this feature, but you can.
For example, content writers who deliver content to this blog can also recruit other writers and they will receive part of the profits that referred authors will generate here.
Everybody happy!
As long as this blog is alive and receives traffic, the author of the content published here will get part of the AdSense impressions on the page where his/her content is published. Which means that every article published here becomes an independent source of profit. And the author should not worry about promoting the blog and getting traffic to it, because this is the duty of the blog owners.
Profit sharing model with 2nd tier becomes a real hit, because the author gets money:
- from his/her articles published here
- from the articles of the authors that he/she has recruited to publish content here
